As the cybersecurity landscape evolves and technology advances at a rapid pace, organizations operating in different OT sectors are facing the need for robust, efficient, and adaptable architectural solutions to answer their business needs.

The uniqueness of OT organizations’ environment, combined with the dependencies on IT service lines, complex technologies, and multiple stakeholders spread across the globe, makes the architectural design process very challenging.

OT organizations need key, knowledgeable partners who are able to understand their local/global infrastructure with all their dependencies ,analyze the status of any existing architecture, manage all the necessary stakeholders, and propose thoughtful solutions.

Any architectural decision should focus on answering the specific needs of OT and finding the right balance between business and security requirements.

Architecture Advisory: Enabling Security and Business Efficiency

bridging the gap

  • Expertise in OT Architecture for Seamless Stakeholder Communication:

Our expertise gathered from different OT architecture projects combined with our extensive OT, IT, and engineering backgrounds allows us to understand complex environments, speak the language of different stakeholders, and establish productive cross-channel communications between them.

  • Balancing Business, Security, and Efficiency in OT Architecture Design:

During our recent projects, we have observed that, for a successful architecture design, the focus should always be on the following three pillars: business needs, security optimization, and operational efficiency. Finding the right balance between these pillars is key.

key differentiators

  • OT Architecture Expertise & Stakeholder Management

We identify the necessary stakeholders for specific services and use our OT architecture expertise to ask key questions as: What IT services does the OT need to consume and why? What does the data flow look like? How are the systems monitored?

  • Client Oriented Architecture

The business is the end client of the architecture. We focus on providing the most practical client-fitting architectural decisions tailored to benefit the reality of the business.

Architecture Analysis

During the Architecture Analysis Phase, we begin with an initial alignment to define the scope and gather specific information about your organization, including infrastructure, sites, stakeholders, and more. Subsequently, we evaluate the current architecture and existing documentation while conducting interviews with key stakeholders.

architecture Design

We establish the architectural guiding principles and necessary services, including Network Segmentation, Active Directory, Time Synchronization, Infrastructure, and Security Monitoring, among others, during the Architecture Design Phase. Following a feedback-based methodology, all architectural proposals and decisions are thoroughly reviewed and synchronized with the relevant stakeholders from the onset.

Pilot & Refinements

During the Pilot & Refinements Phase, we deploy the OT architecture on a preselected pilot site or production line. We gather data on how the general design is being implemented, how the services are being integrated, and any potential issues that may come up throughout this deployment. Based on these observations, we refine the architecture and improve it to be deployed across all sites.

client story

As part of its continuous improvement strategy, a global healthcare company decided to review and refine its 7-year-old OT Architecture deployed across 20 sites worldwide.

The project goals were mainly focused on simplification, operational efficiency, and integration of OT Architecture into OT Strategy. We were asked to optimize the existing architecture and tailor it to the business needs, resources, and risk appetite.

Following a comprehensive analysis approach, our experts were able to develop a new optimized OT Architecture Design by:

  • Involving the necessary service lines and management stakeholders early into the decision process
  • Developing strong key architecture guiding principles and
  • Defining the services with a focus on operational efficiency (no duplicating effort, no unnecessary changes)

By following this unique approach and in alignment with the client’s requirements, our team was able to deliver a complete, refined, and well-thought-out OT Architecture Design.

The architecture was developed not only for the present time but also for the future by making the building blocks and services as scalable and adaptable as possible, allowing the client to operate with a long-term OT architecture and integrate it into its future OT strategy development.
